Home of the famous Delphic Oracle, Pythia. Breathing vapors emanating from beneath the temple she would become intoxicated and her babbling was interpreted by the Priests of Apollo. Her proclamations were the source of severe Christian persecution during the reign of Diocletian. At Trier, Constantine the Great, recognized as the “First Christian Emperor,” envisioned himself as the sun god Apollo.
