COLOSSIANS 2:16 HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RESTING ON THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH

The Greek word

used in Colossians 2:16 is the same Greek word translated “week”
in other places by King James translators.

The word used in Colossians 2:16 is different from the Greek word

which is used to indicate more than one weekly sabbath day.

ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Matthew 28:1
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the
week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Mark 16:2
And very early in the morning the first day of the

week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

John 20:1
The first day of the

week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre,
and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

ANOTHER GREEK WORD

(DIFFERENT FROM THE WORD USED IN COLOSSIANS 2:16)
CLEARLY REFERS TO MORE THAN ONE 7TH DAY SABBATH.

Matthew 12:10
And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered.
And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the

sabbath days?

Luke 4:31
And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the
sabbath days.

Luke 6:2
And certain of the Pharisees said unto them,
Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the

sabbath days?

A STUDY OF THE GREEK WORD USED IN COLOSSIANS 2:16

WHICH REFERS TO WEEK OR WEEKS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE GREEK WORD
USED TO REFER TO MORE THAN ONE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH.

IF THE WRITERS OF THE GREEK TEXT HAD INTENDED TO INDICATE 7TH DAY SABBATHS “PLURAL” THEY COULD HAVE EASILY DONE SO.  INSTEAD THEY CHOSE TO USE A WORD THAT WOULD CLEARLY DISTINGUISH IT FROM 7TH DAY SABBATHS.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR STUDENTS OF GREEK:There are other references which should be considered.
Luke 4:16, Acts 13:14. Acts 16:13 and Matthew 28:1.

The word sabbath is associated with other words which are used
to specify a portion of the week.

If you will notice, in Luke 4:16, Acts 13:14 and Acts 16:13 the word
day (dative case – indirect object) is associated with sabbath.
Those references do not read the sabbath day in Greek,
but rather the day of the sabbath (the day of the week.)
That is the reason that sabbath in those instances is considered genitive.
It follows the word that it is modifying – day.

In Matthew 28:1, the word sabbath is used twice.
1. sabbath is in association with the word translated end (end of the sabbath)
2. sabbath is in association with the word one (first day of the sabbath).

THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT IS NOT A SUGGESTION

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
